Frequently asked questions.

What can I expect from my guide?

Your guide will be professional in every way. They will be mentally and physically ready for a challenging day of guiding. They will show confidence through their actions, not just words. They will be well-prepared for the day and ready to face any challenges. Their appearance and dress will reflect their pride in themselves and the organization they represent. They will also act as a teacher to their clients, who will trust and follow their lead.

What are my guide’s qualifications?

We take our job seriously and our main priority is safety. Our guides are certified first aid and CPR as well as USCG licensed captains. We consider ourselves experts in safety and and operation of power driven vessels. Although rare, accidents do happen and we are prepared to respond swiftly and accordingly. Additionally, our guides are FFI certified casting instructors and are capable of working with any skill level to improve your technique. Aside from guiding, we can conduct one on one private casting lessons (encouraged for beginners).

What if I have never fly fished?

At Chattanooga on the Fly, we pride ourselves in providing exceptional guide services tailored to anglers of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, we have you covered. Our guides are dedicated to making your fishing trip a rewarding learning experience. With us, you can expect top-notch instruction from our FFI certified casting experts. We will teach you the art of casting, making sure you're comfortable and confident in your skills. Additionally, our guides will show you the basics of knot tying, helping you secure your flies effectively.

What should I bring?

A few things to consider when fishing with a guide include:

-Valid Tennessee fishing license from TWRA.

-Polarized sunglasses. These are vital for eye protection from both the sun and being able to focus on what your guide is communicating to you.

-Long sleeves with a hood. Depending on the season, it’s crucial to protect yourself from the sun and other elements. In the fall/winter months it pays to have layered clothing. In the summer months, light fabric and a hoody keep you cool.

-Sunscreen UPF 50+ (Nose, face, ears and hands are and ultraviolet playground)

-A good deck shoe that is non-slip. Crocs or Sperrys are excellent choices.

-Hat.

-Dry bag for phones, medicine etc.

-A winning attitude. Anything can happen but having a great mindset is the easiest path to a successful day.
